Jenna Bean Veatch has been accused of creating “pure, unadulterated,heart-stopping whimsy.”  At various times, she has taken on the roles of dancer, choreographer, performance artist, clown, ukulele songstress, magical fairy, dancing doll, anti-war dance demonstration organizer, and Marshmallow Peep. Her favorite thing to do is create. She makes not just dances but costumes, films, music, and delightful objects. Jessie Smith is a Seattle-based choreographer, performer, filmmaker, designer, and musician. She is the Artistic/Administrative Director of Dead Bird Movement, a modern dance and film production company. Since being founded in 2005, Dead Bird Movement has presented numerous live dance/music works and screened its experimental short films across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan.

In addition to her work with Dead Bird, Smith also plays guitar in The Gargle Blasters and piano in Rollin’ Hazard. She dances and plays guitar in Dayna Hanson’s show “Gloria’s Cause.” She is a movement collaborator and performer in Saint Genet, an experimental performance/visual art company. She was a founding member of Implied Violence and was their choreographer and an ensemble member from 2003-2009. She also danced for Amy O’Neal and Zeke Keeble’s company locust from 2006-2010.   www.deadbirdmovement.com

Dance artist Jody Kuehner is one half of drag dance duo The Cherdonna and Lou Show, performing regularly around Seattle at venues including On the Boards, Century Ballroom, The Triple Door and various other theaters and clubs. Jody joined the Pat Graney Company in 2008 following her internship with PG Company’s prison project, Keeping The Faith in 2007. She also currently dances with Mark Haim and has presented choreography at On The Boards, Velocity Dance Center, and the Joyce SoHo NYC. From 2003-2009, Jody was a member of Seattle repretory company d9 Dance Collective. When Jody’s not performing or rehearsing, she is teaching at Velocity Dance Center, or working as Dayna Hanson’s administrative assistant. She holds a BFA in Dance Performance from the University of South Florida. www.cherdonnalou.com

Crispin Spaeth has been choreographing in Seattle since 1990, and led Crispin Spaeth Dance Group from 1992 – 1997. She is currently working in film and, with Team Horchata, recently won an award via the International Documentary Film Challenge.

Juliet Waller Pruzan is a choreographer and dancer who works with many theater companies, a playwright and teacher of young playwrights, and one-half of the dance theater duo Juliet and Stephen. In June, she will appear in an evening of work celebrating choreographer Mary Sheldon Scott.

For the past 6 years, Aiko Kinoshita and Aaron Swartzman have worked together as UMAMI Performance, creating movement metaphors grounded in the extraordinariness of the everyday. Dynamic performers each accomplished in their own right, their collaboration continues to map the dynamic territory where set and improvised material meet. They create abstract stories filled with rawness, immediacy and the natural expressiveness of bodies in relationship. UMAMI has been presented by On the Boards Nothwest New Works Festival, Velocity’s NEXTfest, Ten Tiny Dances/Seattle, Seattle Jazz Composers Ensemble, and in self production.

Aiko Kinoshita’s choreography has been presented nationally and in Canada, Korea and Japan.  She has performed with regional choreographers; in her own work through her company, acornDance; and as a member of Lingo Dancetheatre.  She holds a MFA in Dance from the University of Illinois, teaches at Velocity Dance Center and is a Managing Member at Open Flight Studio.

Aaron Swartzman is a dancer, father, improviser, Capoierista and educator. He has danced professionally since 2001, working deeply with LINGO dancetheater and LeGendre Performance. He currently teaches K-3 creative movement as a dance specialist at Lafayette Elementary and tries to live his values as a parent and citizen in this tumultuous world.

Maureen Whiting is a choreographer, dancer, and mathematician based in Seattle. Since 1997, The Company (http://maureenwhitingco.org/ )has been commissioned to create new choreographic works at ACT Theatre, On the Boards, and Seattle University, Seattle Dance Project, Cornish College of the Arts, Velocity, Miro Dance Theatre in Philadelphia, and Alaska Dance Theatre.  Maureen has danced for Stephanie Skura and Amii Legendre and grew up a ballet dancer.  Maureen graduated with a degree in Mathematics in 1989 from Smith College and tutors mathematics. She actively pursues collaborations with visual artists, composers, and performers to expand the boundaries of live dance performance.

This is Cassie Wulff’s sixth season dancing with the Maureen Whiting Dance Company. She has also danced with the Serendipity Dance Brigade and in films by Karn Junkinsmith. Cassie plays keyboard and sings in a rock band called “The Webelos”, and she co-created her first visual art show at Catalyst Gallery in August of 2010 entitled “Bearzerker”. Cassie graduated from Cornish College of the Arts in 2006 with a B.F.A. in Dance.

Markeith Wiley is a California native now living in Seattle, WA. He is a dance maker, performer and instructor of many styles of dance in the greater Seattle area. He holds a BFA degree in dance choreography and performance from Cornish College of the Arts. Markeith has studied under Mark Haines, Wade Madsen, Jason Olberg, Sofia Careras, Daniel Cruz, KT Niehoff and many others. Markeith has recently formed his own project based dance group called The New Animals. Their first show premiered in March at the Annex theater. Markeith has worked with many choreographers all along the west coast like Mark Haines, Donald McKayle (CA), Wade Madsen, Deb Wolf, Daniel Wilkins, Bill Evans and KT Niehoff (WA). He has also danced for many groups/ companies while living in Seattle. Some groups include Cruz Control, Kontagious Movement, Sandstrom Movement, The Sho,DeLaRue Presents and Spaghetti CO. He is currently apart of Lingo Dance Theater (directed by: KT Niehoff). Markeith was just the artist in residency at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Riverside Community College.

Hosted by PNB at McCaw HallSpaeth Projects is the Seattle producer of Ten Tiny Dances, a performance form in which ten different choreographers create short dances to be performed on a 4’ by 4’ platform.

Ten Tiny Dances was founded in Portland by Mike Barber and is produced in Seattle by Crispin Spaeth. Spaeth has been producing editions in Seattle since 2005, with performances at Re-Bar, McCaw Hall, Capitol Hill Arts Center, and Velocity Dance Center.

Ten Tiny Dances is a performance form in which ten different choreographers create short dances to be performed on a 4’ by 4’ platform. Spaeth Projects is partnering with Velocity Dance Center to produce the 5th Seattle edition of Ten Tiny Dances, which was originally founded by Portland’s Mike Barber in 2002.

Good things come in small packages.
